Wild Leaf Menghai Sheng Pu-Erh 2003China, Sheng Pu-Erh Tea

This is Sheng but it smells like Shou: deeply aged, which is surprising because it's relatively young in Pu-Erh terms. The leaf is matte brown and fairly large. This tea has everything that I love about Pu-Erh: walnut, mint, earth, subtle fruit rot, and the mold on childhood gouaches. The taste is sweet and creamy. Rose-tinged infusion turns from caramel-brown to the syrupy black of a walnut confiture. That's what the color brown tastes like! A $6 sample is shown here and I bought 2 oz more for $38. A favorite ❤️.
