CHAMPAGNE

Massachusetts

Craft & Cru
Excellent wine shop in Milton with a friendly wine guy and Hebrart Mes Favorites on occasion. Mes Favorites is this shop! I picked up bottles of vintage Corbon, Girost, Laherte, Lassaigne, Savart, a Coteaux Champenois red by Paillard, and a Pierre Péters magnum for a great price here. Get on their email list, John Paul's writing is the best in the industry and you'll be in the know about all of their special tastings and deals. Complement your purchase with a crusty baguette from Steel & Rye conveniently offered at this location.

Federal Wine & Spirits
Quirky old shop in Boston's Financial District. Don't miss the cellar, that's where it's at. Champagne's by the far wall and in the surrounding boxes. This place is a unique sort of mess but you get a good selection of champagne and a special kind of atmosphere of adventure and opportunity. They carry José Michel Special Club and Père Houdart.

Gordon's
Several shops in Boston area. Main store in Waltham has a good selection of champagne, including some magnums, and very good prices. Email ahead and ask for the current price list because the shelves may not reflect their full inventory. Access to the downstairs cave, where most of the interesting stuff is kept, is restricted but negotiable. Ask for their Wi-Fi password because there is no cellular reception in the store and you want to do your research, don't you?

Marty's Fine Wine
Half an aisle of champagne with good grower representation. They usually carry several cuvées from Chartogne-Taillet and Roses de Jeanne, for example. Ask for any bottles not displayed on the shelves, they may have some stashed away. And don't bother with their online inventory, it's inaccurate. This is in Newton.

Sorriso Market
Coolest new wine shop with art and fresh pasta to boot! Chef-sommelier-owner handcrafts exquisite pasta from stone milled flour. Lots of interesting wine and a small but smart selection of champagne. Notably, the shop carries both Zalto and Gabriel Glas stems. This is in Brookline.

The Spirited Gourmet
Belmont wine and cheese shop with a whole wall dedicated to champagne. I picked up Gimonnet Special Club, Lassaigne Colline Inspirée, and Bruno Paillard Assemblage here.

Street Car Wines
Tiny shop in Jamaica Plain with a regularly refreshed champagne lineup and accurate online inventory. Here I found José Michel Special Club and a rare Nikolaihof Gelber Muskateller vertical.

Vintages
This strictly-wine shop in Concord has a charming bookstore vibe and a small but good selection of champagne, including Chiquet and Moussé Special Clubs, and Gimonnet Oenophile.

Colorado

Catherine Store
Unique and not to be missed! A true destination. Make an appointment to meet the owner and wine collector Rhonda Black and stock up on fabulous older bottles under her insightful guidance. Very good prices and a shopping experience you won't forget. This gold mine is near Aspen, Colorado.

Cured
There is a small wine room at the back of this excellent cheese, charcuterie, and specialty foods shop in Boulder that also offers a focused selection of champagne.

Hazel's Beverage World
Excellent selection and even better prices than at Molly's. Warm staff. Ask to visit their cellar. This is in Boulder.

Molly's Spirits
A large liquor store in Denver with an extensive lineup of champagne of all types, including special allocations and rare bottles. Competitive prices. Ask to visit their vault.
